Bridging the Gap

Our community runs at its best when we bring it, together.

A relationship can't survive without good communication and teamwork. The same goes for the relationship between a council and its community. A cohesive region combines the efforts of its council, community groups, businesses and ratepayers, creating a working piece of art that makes use of all its parts.

As a Councillor I will work to bridge the gap between the Council Chambers and the community, ensuring decisions are informed by ratepayer feedback and pushing for more substantive engagement.  I believe that we can have an informed region making the best use of its talents and strengths while supporting areas of weakness and need. Working together, for a better Nelson.

Sensible Spending

Positive financial decisions that truly matter.

Whether running a home, business or city, smart financial decision making is crucial for future success. With the lingering effects of Covid and rising inflation, this is now more crucial than ever. We need a council that takes the current financial climate into account and is transparent about expenditure, while also taking on board ratepayer feedback. Money should be spent where it will make the most impact and where it is needed the most.

As a Councillor I will work to firmly connect community needs with sound financial decisions. I will aim to ensure spending is appropriate and challenge any poor decision making so we make the most out of the hard earned money entrusted to us by ratepayers.

A Thriving Economy

Support that businesses need to succeed.

One of Nelsons biggest strengths has always been our incredible businesses. Hospitality, industry, service or corporate, small or large, business has provided for and enriched our community. But businesses have been doing it tough. Even before the affects of Covid and inflation, high rates and little support from the council has left many feeling the pinch and many more leaving for greener pastures or closing their doors for good.

Things need to change.

Nelson businesses need a voice, making certain that they are included in council decisions.

As a Councillor I will work to see the council join with the business sector in matters that affect local economy so that all businesses, large or small, have the support they need to grow and flourish.

A City for All

Family and youth friendly initiatives.

Our community thrives when we unite together.

Since the youth hub was demolished in 2012 nothing has sprung up to take its place. Youth and family initiatives seem to have been put on the back burner leaving a dearth of services and spaces for our rangitahi. We need events and activities accessible for all and a council that understands the importance of inclusivity.

As a Councillor I will work to advocate for families and youth, ensuring spaces and services support and inspire the new generations of Nelsonians.  I will champion community events and projects to encourage families to come together and enjoy our wonderful city.

Bring it, together, for a better community.

A bit about me

Home: Text

Proudly born in Nelson in 1990, I am passionate about my city.

I believe ratepayers and the council can function strongly in a symbiotic relationship as they bring together their insights, ideas, needs and efforts to make our city flourish.

In my formative years I split my time between rural life in Pigeon Valley and the historic Nelson Brown House in the central city while my parents managed the Brown House Restaurant.  Growing up in Nelson was awesome! When I wasn't selling our home grown berries at the Nelson Market, I was dancing in the theatre Royal, singing in choirs, marching in masked parades and doing good across the region through the Girl Guides. This was my first taste of contributing to the community and I was hooked.

I got my second taste of investing in the community when I joined the Tasman Youth Council.  Together, we worked with the youth of the region organising fundraisers, submitting on youth issues to local and central government and creating safe youth events such as drug free dances and community art projects. This is where I learned the importance of local government and how it could improve the community by being aware of its citizens needs.

After meeting the love of my life we couldn't wait to start our own family.  We moved into the heart of Nelson to build our life surrounded by its beauty and bustle and raise our beautiful daughter. Actively involving myself in the community where I could during this time, I attended local events, parent helped at coder dojo, wrote submissions on various local government proposals and intentionally left google reviews on as many nelson businesses as I could- my way of showing added support to local businesses I love. Time sure flies when you're having fun and after many milestones and memories we now have a teenager who is looking to Nelson to provide her with the opportunities afforded to myself and many others over the years.

Whilst raising my family I studied part time and worked to become a jeweller. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work alongside a master jeweller at Ian Wills Jewellers, nestled In the historic 29 Bridge Street shop. As a continuing part of its legacy dating back to 1855, I have been helping Nelsonians make happy memories for the last 10 years.

Now, I want to give back to the community by being your voice in the council Chambers.

As a Councillor I will work to foster a close relationship between ratepayers and the council, with better informed and wide-reaching community engagement.  As we bring it, together, we can ensure that all Nelsonians now and in the future can enjoy, contribute, and be proud of their city.
